Here at Mix966fm and Fast Lane Magazine @FastLaneMag we are celebrating the 80’s. This was a great era for music. We had Punk, Heavy Metal, Reggae, Hip Hop, FreeStyle, Hi-NRG, Ska, New Wave, and Pop. Pop definitely was the ruler of the airwaves, and that new thing called MTV. However, the 80’s were also the beginning of the independent artist movement, and you saw the birth/defining direction of Rap (Beastie Boys), Reggae (Blondie), Metal (Motley Crue), and many other common genres. Working with DJ Looney Tunes @ the Hop Industry, I had the opportunity to work with many of the 80’s groups, The Flock of Seagulls to Missing Persons. In the the green room back stage, I shared a few beers with Dale Bozzie (lead singer of Missing Persons) and Mike Score (lead singer of Flock of Seagulls) and just reminisce of those good times. I kept teasing Mike Score about his hair, hahaha. It was a great concert.
Now, again, for you young DJ’s who are trying to come up, take a LISTEN. All these records were recorded with “LIVE” drums. Drum machines/Samplers were barely becoming popular in the mid 80’s. That means you have to ride the pitch, fiddle with the platter and pray that your are in sync. This takes years of practice and a good ear. Here is my Friday Fast Lane Feel Good 80’s Quickie Mix… Hope you enjoy the Mix…
Content: The Fixx, Missing Persons, Berlin, The Cure, Duran Duran, Go Go’s, Flock of Seagulls, Divo, Billy Idol, The Romantic…...
